Just before leaving the country on September 13, Anirbaan informed, “In this tour I will be touching Liverpool in England for a concert and I am very excited about it”. He added, “I am also an avid fan of the Beatles and since it was in Liverpool that they made their mark, this venue has always been very special for me.” The Ghazal singer further added, “In my earlier European tours I was not lucky enough to perform in Liverpool but by the grace of God and the love of the Indian people for me – it has materialized this time.”
Anirbaan will have two concerts in London and he will also perform in Oslo, Stockholm, Durham, Bradford and other venues.
Endowed with a rich legacy of music and having developed it into a class to reckon with, Anirbaan definitely has arrived and made his presence felt in the cultural circuit of the State and the region, for that matter.
This talented artist started learning and exploring the hidden joys of music from the tender age of six under the able guidance of his mother Dr Lakshahira Das and later from Ustad Iqbal Khan of the Gwalior Gharana. He is a graduate in vocal music from Prayag Sangeet Samiti, an institution for classical music in Allahabad. With a musical career spanning a time period of more than twenty five years, this gifted musician from Assam has developed a style which is reflected in his highly imaginative and well structured presentation.
It is noteworthy to mention here that Anirbaan is planning to release an album Live in Europe after this particular tour. “If all goes well, I should be able to release my album after I get back from the tour,” informed Anirbaan.
Presently, he is busy rehearsing with musicians based in London. The artiste will be accompanied by Iqbal Khan on tabla, Randeep Singh on guitar and Robert will handle the keys.
Till date, Anirbaan has four albums to his credit, namely Shabaab, Shabnam, The Best of Anirbaan and Geetimalika.
On being asked about his favourite music album, this is what he had to say, “It is very difficult to choose a favourite album in the vast world of music and yes, I do spend hours listening to good music.” He added, “I do my rewaz regularly every morning and I feel that music is food for the soul.”
Anirbaan’s voice flows in perfect harmony with the music, to scintillate and intoxicate the listener. This soulful singer has the capacity to breathe life into mere words with his expressions and his feelings. Try catching him live in one of his concerts and you will agree with me that his velvety voice, coupled with his relaxed style, creates an ethereal atmosphere.
Some of his memorable and noteworthy performances are the Sham-e-Ghazi at the India International Centre, New Delhi; Mehfil-e-Ghazi in Mumbai; His performance in the House Of Lords in the British Parliament, London, Musical Night at Amsterdam, Holland on an invitation from the Department of Tourism, Government of India; The cultural programme organised by the Asian community in Brussels and others.
