The meeting was presided over by Dr Budhindra Barua, principal, Dhemaji College, in which noted citizens like ex-principal Diram Kumbang, principal, Silapathar Science College, Ranjit Saikia, AASU finance secretary Tolaram Gogoi, retired DC Suchen Pawe, AGP district president, Tolan Konwar and many others opined that as there is no State-level educational institute and any big industry in Dhemaji, the government should establish the proposed engineering college at Dhemaji which will pave way for equal development of the district.
Dilip Hazarika, journalist, pointed out that the proposed engineering college can be established as the government land of Bishnupur.
Khargeswar Pegu, CO, appealed to all parties and organisations of Dhemaji to come forward unitedly with this demand and Dhemaji AASU showed take the leadership.
In this connection a committee with Umesh Chetia as president and Sanjai Dutta as secretary and several other leading citizens as members was formed. Besides, the meeting demanded to establish a campus of Dibrugarh University and a medical college at Dhemaji. Jitu Bora delivered the welcome speech and Chittaranjan Basumatari explained the purpose of the meeting.
