San Francisco Bay Area Bihu 2003 Celebration
The Bay Area Assamese Community celebrated Bohag Bihu with great enthusiam amidst their day-to-day hectic life.Even though thousands of miles away from Axom,with war cries and economy in the doldrus,Bihu nostalgia was shared by all and celebrated with full jest as every year.
HIT THE FLOOR, ITS BIHU
From the sylvan to the urbane, life, fertility and celebration seem to have come full circle in Assam. Rongali Bihu, the spring festival and Assamese new year, now has a corporate look.
Bihu celebrated in the Twin Cities.
The small assamese community of Minneapolis and St.Paul celebrated bohag bihu with traditional fun and spirit. Thanks to Chitralekha (Minti) and Somesh for hosting the festivities in their beautiful home. It was a day long event . We started with the traditional and delectable bihu snacks like sira, doi, tilor ladu, pitha and other homemade sweets . This was followed by bihu dance performances by Namita, Giti and Monica and Barnali. Monica and Debojyoti's daughters, Meghna and Debika performed a wonderful dance sequence.
Fortifying their flanks?
It can be viewed, at the very least, as a sign of the capitulation of moderate Hindus, in this case, followers of 15th century Vaishnavite saint Sri Srimanta Xankardeb in Assam.
Bihu Celebrated Colorado Springs, Colorado
It was attended by individuals and families in all
three Metropolitan areas in Colorado: Denver, Colorado Springs
and Fort Collins.
The day's program started around noon with everyone arriving
and partaking of jolpaan of siraa and doi, with singara, mithaai,
and varieties of
pithaas and laarus made by Rita Kastner of Evergreen, Lipika Das of
Aurora, Anima Goswami of Fort Collins and Bonmayuri Kalita
of Colorado Springs. It was followed by a brief naam-prasanga
led by Dipendra Goswami of Fort Collins and Ganesh Bhuyan
Rongali Bihu Celebration by Assam Association, Delhi
Assam Association, Delhi celebrated Rongali Bihu Festival at the open auditorium of “Samaj Sadan” in Laxmibai Nagar, New Delhi on 20th April, 2003, Sunday. It was reminiscent of the “bihutoli”s of back home, open space, huge crowd of about 750 people of all ages.
33 killed, 50,000 homeless as killer storm wrecks Assam
The storm, accompanied by heavy rains, raged to the ground a cluster of eight villages in Mankachar circle of lower Assam's Dhubri district killing 30 people, including 14 women, Dhubri police superintendent Paresh Bordoloi told PTI. Most of the fatalities occurred when thatched houses collapsed and trees fell on the villagers.

Rongali Bihu 2003 celebration, Mumbai
The Assam Association, Mumbai had celebrated “Rongali Bihu 2003” on Saturday 12th April on R. Thadani School, Chembur with overwhelming response of hundreds of Assamese people residing in the financial capital of the country, Mumbai.
